Remembering the Life of Brother Adolphus E. Gaffney
Adolphus E. Gaffney was born to the late Simon and Annie Taylor Gaffney, on December 24, 1928 in Docena, Alabama.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was immersed in the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church community, where he served on Usher Board #1. He served in the military and retired after 30 years, where he was a First Sergeant, therefore giving him the name “Sarge.” In 1986, he graduated from Cuyahoga Community College with a degree in Business Administration. Adolphus worked 10 years for Highland Heights Village as a Landscaper.
Adolphus E. Gaffney was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Beverly Jean Spence on June 27, 1999 in Euclid, Ohio. Adolphus helped raise four children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild with patience and love. He encouraged his children to explore the beauty of the Gospels, leading them to accept Christ as their personal Savior. Adolphus also encourage his children and grandchildren to gain higher levels of education.
Adolphus always offered his time, and advice to answer complex question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He will be dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.
Adolphus E. Gaffney, “Sarge” 86, returned to his heavenly home on May 5, 2015. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him though-out his life.
He is preceded in death by his father, Simon Gaffney, Sr., and mother, Annie Taylor Gaffney; his siblings, Simon Gaffney, Jr, Burnette Hoyle, Ellamae Woods, Frank Gaffney, Othello Hampton and AlphLoyd Gaffney.
Adolphus is survived by his wife, Beverly Gaffney of Euclid, Ohio; his daughters: Robyn Primm-Jeffries (Charles) of Richmond Heights, Ohio, Monica Reid of Richmond Heights, Ohio, Shirley Spence-Witherspoon (Sam) of Euclid, Ohio and Kenneth Spence of Cleveland Ohio; six grandchildren: Tiffany, Tyneshia, Chuck, Christian, Justin, and Myiesha and one great-grandchild, Moriah; one sister, Mamie Trammer of Akron, Ohio, and one brother, Louis Gaffney (Helen) of California, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank everyone for their acts of kindness and prayers during this difficult time. Special thanks to Calhoun Funeral Home and the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church family.
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
