Albert Christian, 81, passed away on August 4, 2024, in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. Born on June 8, 1943, in Newark, NJ, he was the beloved son of the late Eleanor Butler and Alonzo Christian. Albert was the youngest of four children, Rudolph, Nellie, and Lonnie.
Albert attended Robert Treat Junior High School and Boys Vocational School, where he developed a strong foundation for his future endeavors. He was a dedicated member of Bethany Baptist Church and attended Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, where he found joy and faith among the strong community of believers.
At the tender age of 15, Albert met the woman of his dreams, Lorraine Christian. They married and together raised two children, Gregory Albert Christian and Bryant Keith Christian. They also opened their home to care for many family members and loved ones in times of need. Such benevolence was visited upon Taquan, Trina and Taya Williams, who occupied the empty nest after the departure of Greg and Bryant. Albert and Lorraine provided and cared for them as their very own. Albert enjoyed working with the youth and left his mark as a Leader of Boys Club of America in Newark, NJ. He also cherished working with Trent Reeves as a Cub Scout Master for Pack 35 at Washington Street School in East Orange, NJ.
Albert retired from Public Service Electric and Gas after over 35 years of dedicated service, where he served as Manager of Corporate Records. After retirement, he enjoyed a second career as a cook and manager at Big Waters Seafood in Hillside, NJ, working alongside the owners, Sharrow and her husband Lamont. This was a very rewarding experience for Albert, as it helped fulfill his entrepreneurial spirit and satisfy his boundless energy. Albert was a consistent provider for his household, a dependable resource for his family and a generous supporter for those in need.
From a young age, Albert was always eager to earn money. Before he turned 10 years old, he sold Jet magazines door to door, walking from Livingston Avenue to Newark Airport. He also held positions including chicken plucking, grocery clerking, and even served as a bakery assistant. Additionally, he owned and operated a cleaning service for 30+ years. He encouraged and supported the enterprises of Greg and Bryant with only one condition – a solid knowledge of the endeavor and a precise plan of execution. Outside of working, Albert enjoyed games of chance and opportunities to make a dollar out of fifteen cents. That drive inspired a lifelong enjoyment of casino outlets and lottery gaming.
During the most recent years as Albert’s dementia progressed, he would experience episodes of agitation. But it was his love and respect for his Aunt Lucy that would calm him down.
Albert leaves to mourn his absence: his loving wife, Lorraine Christian;, his devoted sons, Gregory A. Christian and Bryant K. (Michelle) Christian; his beloved grandson, Brennan K. Christian; his sister, Nellie Duncan, and brother, Kenneth G. (Vanessa) Christian; his sister-in-law, Kay Christian; his cousin, Andre Green; his nieces, Tina Duncan, Tammy Christian, Rose (Tawan) Ussery, Shivelle Duncan, and Brandy (Mike) Williams; his nephews, Ali Duncan, Mufid Duncan, Rudy (Ramona) Christian, Rodney Christian, Rickey Christian, Lon Christian, Kenneth Christian, Jr., Eric Christian, and Kendall. He was predeceased by his niece, Donna Duncan, and nephew, Eric Duncan.
Albert had many special friends who will miss him dearly, including Benny (Gloria) Moses, Brenda Moore, and Ronald Bagley.
Albert’s life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and faith. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and the positive impact he had on everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
