Alice Marie Hubbard, a devoted Christian, was born on June 25, 1953, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the youngest of three siblings, preceded in death by her parents, Vernedda and Willie Vailes, sister Carol (Douglas), and brother Donald. Alice embraced her faith early on at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she served in various roles, including usher, stewardess, and as the “VP” of the Missionary Society.
Educated in Cleveland Public Schools and a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School Class of 1971, Alice continued her academic journey at Cuyahoga Community College. There, she not only earned an Associate’s Degree and Licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant but also found the love of her life in Edwin Hubbard Sr. (45 years of marriage). Alice dedicated 35 years of service at University Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic before retiring to embrace her role as a full-time grandma.
On July 9, 1980, Alice married Edwin Hubbard Sr., with whom she raised two sons, Edwin Hubbard Jr. and Matthew Hubbard. Known for her unwavering support, Alice actively engaged as a Booster Club Parent, PTA member, and enthusiastic fan of her sons’ endeavors. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Olesia and Matthias (Matthew’s family), and Edwin III and Ezra (Edwin Jr.’s family), where she delighted in attending their many sporting events.
Alice peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband, Edwin Hubbard Sr., sons Edwin Hubbard Jr. (Siobhan Hubbard) and Matthew Hubbard (Opal Hubbard), grandchildren Olesia, Matthias, Edwin III, and Ezra, Sister-in-Law Mae West, niece Traci Douglas, a host of numerous nephews, nieces (devoted nieces Barbara Whipple and Katrina Barfield), relatives, and dear friends.
