Allen Evans Woodson, affectionately known as “Big Al,” peacefully departed this life in his sleep on December 19, 2025. Born on May 5, 1972, in Cleveland, Ohio, Allen was the son of Allen Sandifer and the late Diane (Woodson) Hunt.
From an early age, Allen committed his life to Christ and was baptized at St. Peter’s Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Abraham Accoff. His faith remained a cornerstone of his life; he faithfully served in the Male Chorus at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Larry Harris, where his love for singing and music was shared with the congregation.
Educated in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Allen was a standout athlete, proudly playing football for West Technical High School. His warm spirit and engaging personality made him a pillar of his community. Whether he was dancing, singing, or sharing a laugh, Allen’s genuine kindness left a lasting impression. As his friends and family say, “Everyone has a ‘Big Al’ story to tell.”
Allen was a devoted father and is survived by his children: Allen J. Woodson Jr., Aniya D. Woodson, and Amir J. Woodson. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Alisha A. Woodson.
His memory will be cherished by his father, Allen Sandifer; his stepfather, Eric Hunt; and his sisters, Dr. Sophia D. Woodson-Laney (Andre), Tammy Porter, Mironda Tubbs (William), Ronita Sandifer, and Falesia Wiley Clark (Elliott). Although Allen had no biological brothers, he was blessed with a brotherhood of loyal friends whose bonds were forged in love and loyalty. He also leaves behind a host of extended family members and dear friends who were enriched by his joy.
Allen’s legacy of faith and laughter will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
