Amanda Marie Smolenski, beloved daughter of Joye Wells Smolenski and the late Stanley Smolenski,
slipped away at home on March 13th. She was born on April 17, 1986, in Jeannette, PA.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her aunts and uncles: Cindy (Bill) Alward, William “Popeye” (Maggie) Lenker, Cathy (Paul) Kentzel, Jenny (Bob) Kramer, Chet (Anita) Smolenski, John (MaryEllen) Smolenski, Ed (Chris) Smolenski, Mary Smolenski, and Steve (Debbie) Smolenski; many cousins; her goddaughter, Trinity Pujia; and her best friend—her sister by heart—Samantha (Doug) Herron, along with her honorary nephews Joey, David, and Theo Herron.
She grew up in Marietta, OH, where she graduated from Marietta High School and was a member of the track and cross-country teams. Amanda was a Licensed Social Worker and was currently employed by First Alliance Healthcare of Ohio in Cleveland.
She earned Bachelor’s degrees in History (Xavier University) and Social Work (Brescia University), and she was pursuing her Master’s in Social Work at Cleveland State University. Amanda deeply valued her work and believed she could make a difference in the lives of others.
Amanda enjoyed reading, playing video games, and occasionally cross-stitching. She loved animals—especially her dogs and her mother’s cat—and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Penguins fan. She had been married to Cory Sims until their mutual parting last year.
A memorial service will be held in a few months, when the weather is more accommodating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Amanda’s memory may be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (imaginationlibrary.com).
