Born January 22, 1937 in Wilberton, Oklahoma to William and Isabella Patterson. Ann relocated to Lorain, Ohio in her early teens with her sister Ida. Ann graduated from Lorain High School where she participated in several activities often referring to being a majorette as a highlight. Early in her career, Ann was a very popular hostess and manager at popular establishments in downtown Akron. She was named Akron Bar Maid of the Year in 1953. A big supporter of education, Ann became a teacher’s assistant in 1974 working for Akron Public School for many years utilizing her artistic talents to bring smiles to the children she helped to educate. After a short stint as a teacher’s assistant in Seale, Alabama, Ann returned to Akron and was a property manager for Alpha Phi Alpha homes for five years before retiring. Ann will be remembered for her kindness and generosity to others, her peach cobbler, never having a hair out of place, always being sharply dressed and believing a hat was the best accessory.
Ann was a Member of New Hope Baptist Church and sang in the choir, even serving as choir president. Ann was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Ann is survived by her children Antonette (James), Laddie Jr. (Crystal) and Satonya and her grandchildren, Tiffany, Brandi, Brittanii, BriAnna, Laddie III, Christian, Dakota and Ashanti. Ann is the proud grandmother of 7 great grandchildren.
Ann also leaves to mourn her passing sisters Mollie, Maybelle and Ida, brothers William and Blakely, a host of beloved nieces and nephews and very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Malinda. Ann’s pride was always her family and all the time she shared with each of us. On her behalf, thank you for your love and friendship. Ann will forever be missed.
