Anthony Edward Smith

November 14, 1961 - November 29, 2014

Anthony E. Smith (Tony) , went home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2014. Tony is survived by his beloved wife Vanessa L. Whiting, loving children Taylor, Lorin and Tony II and nephew Daniel Smith. Tony received a BA in Engineering from the University of Illinois and MBA from the prestigious University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He was a highly successful entrepreneur, community activist, philanthropist and owner of the first Popeye’s franchises in Cleveland and one of the largest in the United States. He was also an active member of the 100 Black Men of Greater Cleveland and was named Trustee Emeritus by the Great Lakes Science Center. Visitation will be Sunday, December 7, 2014 3-6 PM at the CALHOUN FUNERAL HOME 23000 Rockside Rd, Bedford Hts., OH 44146. Service is Monday, December 8, 2014 10:00 AM at FAIRMOUNT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 2757 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland Hts., Ohio 44118.

I had the pleasure of working with Tony many years ago at Touche Ross/Deloitte. He was a wonderful man--always positive, smiling, and open to helping others. My sincere condolences to Vanessa and the family.

Tony Smith a true example of a great man..I learned a lot from him and he will never be forgotten..

My prayers and condolences goes out to the family of Anthony(Tony)Smith. I had the pleasure of working with Tony at Dock's Restaurant (formerly on Lee Road) and was apart of his first set of employees when he opend his Popeye's franchise on Buckeye Road and Northfield Road. He will be greatly missed and was one of my most memorable Employers to have had worked for.

I am so sorry to learn of Tony's passing. I had the priviledge of working with Tony at Fairmount Presbyterian Church and serving under him in the Ushering Team he led. Tony was a kind hearted, gentle man that gave freely of his time. He served as a great role model for young and old alike. I shall miss him.

We have wonderful memories of Tony at the opening of his very first Dock's restaurant. Tony was a wonderful, kind and funny person who truly loved his family. He will be missed. My prayers are with you Vanessa, Taylor, Lorin and Tony II.

It was an honor to be the pediatrician for Taylor, Lorin and "Little Tony". The loss of Anthony Smith's earthly life at such a young age is profound. The pain is assuaged in the certainty that Tony was a true Christian disciple, who believed in life ever lasting and in his exemplary life of faithfulness as a loving husband and father, who provided so well for his family, always placing their welfare above his own.

Tony Smith is one of the kindest, finest men I know. Our church is a better place because of him. I shall miss him greatly. My love and prayers to Vanessa and those great children. Judy Forward
