Arlean Fryer was born in Akron, Alabama, to the union of Willie Williams and Celia
Levert-Williams on July 26, 1938.
Arlean attended school in Alabama at the Hale County Training School, where she graduated with a high school diploma.
Arlean Williams moved to Cleveland, Ohio, after graduation from high school where she met and married John Louis Fryer in 1961. From the union, five children were born, one son and four daughters. In February 1991, John passed away.
Arlean was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God, where she served as a greeter and historian for the Women of Church of God Ministries. Arlean volunteered for the Hot Meals Program and Angel Tree Ministries at Mt. Pleasant Church of God. She later became an East Side Christian Reformed Church member and continued volunteering for the Hot Lunch Program.
Arlean started working in nutrition services at Harvey Rice Elementary School and retired from the University Hospital Nutrition Services, where she specifically made baby formula for special diets. After retirement, Arlean volunteers as a classroom grandmother for the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging at Sunbeam School.
Arlean loved cooking meals for her family, especially during the holidays. She epitomized the phrase, “Feed your souls by feeding the souls of others with love and homecooked food.” One of her specialties was baking cakes that melt in your mouth which consisted of Red Velvet, Blue Velvet, Whipping Cream Pound Cake, Cream Cheese Pound Cake, and a Chocolate Torte, to name a few.
Arlean was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Williams and Celia Levert-Williams, two of her sisters, Mary L. Washington and Bettie A. Perkins, and five brothers Wiley Williams, Lloyd Williams, Jack Williams, Arthur L. Williams, and James E. Williams.
Arlean leaves to cherish her memory, son, John Louis Fryer Jr. (LaMonica); daughters Patricia Fryer, Tracey Fryer, Stacey Fryer, Peggy Fryer; granddaughters Jasmine, Paige, and Jaylan Fryer; grandsons Teryn and Adonis Fryer; a great-grandson Teryn Jr.; beloved sisters Lois Franklin and Dorothy B. Leeth; and dear brother Clarence Williams.
