Arnater Lucricia Yarbrough was born in Clarksdale, MS on January 10, 1933, to Solomon and Clemette Beck. At the age of 18, she married Leo Yarbrough on June 1, 1951, in Akron Ohio. A marriage that lasted 35 years. Arnater retired from Akron Children’s Hospital after 38 years of service. She started in Housekeeping and then worked as an aide, serving in the nursery. A hospital pathologist had been observing her work. “He asked if I’d be interested in working for him,” she explained. “Naturally, I said ‘yes.’ It gave me a chance to learn something new.” Arnater was hired to do lab pickup and was later trained in histology. She assisted pathologists and served as a curator for the medical school.
Arnater enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. She was an avid shopper always following the latest trends. Arnater won numerous Beautification Watch Award Certificates for her flower garden. She enjoyed creative decorating. Arnater once said, “The art is not buying new things, but creating something new and different with what you already have.” Arnater was a member of The United Baptist Church Ministries of Akron, Ohio.
Arnater was proceeded in death by her parents, Solomon and Clemette Beck; husband, Leo Yarbrough; son, Kenneth Yarbrough; daughter, Janet Marie Brunson; grandson, Rex Allen Richardson; brothers, Samuel Beck, Johnny Johnson, James Beck and Saul Beck; sisters, Annie Mae Walker and Quean A Reese.
Left to continue her legacy is her sons, Bruce (Barabara) Yarbrough and Leo Yarbrough Jr.; daughter, Susan Hannah; sister, Lannie Forman of Chicago, Illinois; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, family and neighbors to cherish her memories.
