Arthur Howard Dunkley, Sr. 52, also known as “Artie” or “Dunk”, was born February 20, 1971 to John and Doretta Dunkley in Akron, Ohio. Artie peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2023 at Summa Akron City Hospital. Artie attended Akron Public Schools from K-12th grade, graduating with the class of ‘89 from Buchtel High School. During his high school years Artie was a member of the state champion football team, and was also a member of the baseball team. Shortly after graduation, Artie joined the United States Army where he served from 1989-1993 participating in the Gulf War, specifically in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield. Artie was raised at New Hope Baptist Church where he grew to love the Lord with all his heart.
Artie worked for the US Postal Service for 10 years and was also an over the road truck driver. He was the youngest of 6 children and was very much spoiled by all of them. He was the father of 2 beautiful children Arthur Dunkley Jr. (AJ) and Kierra Dunkley, who loved their dad very much. He was also the proud Grandfather of Kensleigh.
He was an avid lover of music, especially Al Green. He was always the life of the party grabbing anything he could turn into a microphone to sing. Artie had a deep love for sports, which led him to become a referee for basketball, and football and an umpire for Softball and Baseball. One of his many favorite things to do was cook, and he was always ready to let you know he was the best in the kitchen and on the grill.
Arthur was preceded in death by his Father and Mother John and Doretta Dunkley. Arthur leaves behind his children Arthur Dunkley Jr. and Kierra Dunkley, granddaughter Kensleigh, all of Akron, Ohio. Brothers Gregory (Judi) Hill of Copley, Ohio, Jerry (Nikole) Dunkley of Chesapeake, Virginia, John Dunkley and sisters Gwendolyn Hill and Sharon Dunkley all of Akron, Ohio. He also leaves behind his ex-wife and close friend Alicia Colvin Dunkley of Akron, Ohio. Artie also leaves behind 10 nephews, 6 nieces and a host of other family and friends.
