Barney Godfrey Sr. was born the 8 child of eleven siblings on May 31,1947, to the late Sylvester Godfrey Sr. and Carrie Godfrey of Livingston, Alabama.
Barney accepted Christ at a young age. He remained a religious man and dedicated to Church until he departed. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he attended Cleveland Public Schools. At the age of seventeen he joined the Navy, where he completed school and continued to serve his country. While in the military he held the position as an electrical repair man. He also received a metal for National Defense Service. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
After his discharge he went on to be employed by the illuminating Company and he also purchased a Gas station. After completing his employment and selling the gas station he went on to work for the Cleveland School Board where he served thirty years and retired as a Lead Mechanic for the school buses.
After retiring Barney enjoyed spending time at home. Just to enjoy watching TV or walking around in the yard. Barney was very creative and Brilliant with building and fixing things. He also loved gardening and Flowers, which was one of the reasons he enjoyed walking around in the yard, so that he could just enjoy the beauty of his flowers and garden of vegetables. He was also great with the children; all the kids loved him. Barney was a very loving and caring person, to know him was to love him.
Barney departed his life on June 29,2024 at his home in Richmond Heights, Ohio.
Barney was preceded in death by his four brothers, Andrew Godfrey, David Godfrey, Willie Godfrey, and Roy James Godfrey. And one sister Pearlie Mae Wilcox-Slaughter.
Barney leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Geraldine Godfrey, three brothers, Sylvester Godfrey Jr., Robert Godfrey, Walter Earl Godfrey, two sisters, Emily Ann Godfrey-Murray, Betty Jean Godfrey, two sons David Godfrey, Barney Godfrey Jr. (Francine Godfrey), three daughters, Catherine Godfrey Waters (Elmo Waters), Carrie Godfrey, Myisha Godfrey, three bonus children by his wife Geraldine Godfrey, Rosaline Ray, Yolanda Hewston, and Thomas Ray . And a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, family, and friends.
Barney will be greatly missed by all that loved and cherished him.
