Barry Keith Dowdell, 63, passed away Wednesday, December 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Frank Williams and brother, Roy Dowdell (Beverly) . Barry was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, to the union of Frank and Bonietha Williams on June 2, 1961.
He received his education in the Cleveland Public School district where he excelled academically. As a member of Upward Bound, Barry spent the academic year and summers preparing to become a first-generation college student. In 1979, he graduated from South High School, where he played for the baseball team, enjoyed learning French and Spanish and continued to take his education seriously. He attended Baldwin Wallace College. Barry joined the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company in 1984. He loved learning new things and soon proved to be a valued and skilled employee. He was proud of the work he did and continued to move through the ranks until he retired in 2020 as a Foreman with the company.
In 1992, Barry became the proud father of his daughter, DeLisa Dowdell. He was the ultimate “Girl Dad,” and spoiled her rotten. He spent his life teaching her how to navigate life’s challenges while providing his constant love, support and guidance. Together with son Antoine, the trio shared their love of music, sports, video games and fishing. He loved being a father and all who knew him would agree that those two were his pride and joy.
Barry lived his life to the absolute fullest and always had a smile on his face and welcomed you with a hug. He loved his Cleveland Browns no matter the stats and could be found in Browns gear every gameday during the season. He was an avid traveler, excellent grill master and one of the best home remodelers in the family. Barry was a member of several singing groups and always had some type of music playing wherever he was. Barry had a great sense of humor and gave everyone he knew some type of affectionate nickname. He will be remembered for his sense of style, big heart, his generosity and kind soul. Most important is the connection he established and maintained with all who knew him. Barry made everyone feel they were an important part of his life. He will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. He is survived by his mother, Bonietha Williams; daughter, DeLisa Dowdell, son, Antoine Franklin; brother, Frank Dowdell, sisters, Karen McDearmon (Kevin), Katrina Walker (Edward), Joan Cook (Patrick), Kelly Young and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
