Mrs. Beatrice White was born in Akron, Ohio, on March 16, 1926. Throughout her life, she lived by the motto: “Do What You Can—When you can, while you can”.
She was a dedicated member of Wesley Temple, joining under Rev. Foot. Her service to the church was extensive, including membership in the Young Women’s Missionary Society starting in 1956 under Rev. Eugene Morgan Jr., as well as the Emma L. Johnson-Parent Body Missionary. She also contributed her talents to the Culinary Arts Department and sang in the Junior Choir under Mrs. Lucille Roy. Reflecting on her choir days, she humorously remarked that she “couldn’t sing, but if you sang real low, no one really noticed”.
Mrs. White’s community involvement extended to the Masonic Bodies, The Red Hat Society, and the Ed Davis Seniors Travel Sender Dance Group sponsored by Universal Nursing. In her younger years, she worked with the Girl Scouts and held several jobs while attending school. After graduation, she attended Beauty School in Cleveland. She later pursued an education at Practical Nursing School and worked in private duty nursing before eventually retiring from Chrysler.
In her personal reflections, she expressed a fondness for the early days of the missionary society when members met in homes and celebrated holidays with their husbands. She remained active in her later years, enjoying bowling and various social clubs. She concluded her story by sharing her gratitude: “I am enjoying life and I really feel blessed to have come this far. God bless all the others being honored and those who are honoring us”. Her life was guided by her favorite scripture, “Do Unto Others as you would have them do unto you,” and her favorite hymn, “How Great Thou Art”.
