On December 7, 1952, Bernice Jones was born to Mary Francis Jones and Eddie Lee Jones. Bernice was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, attending and graduating from Akron Public Schools. She went on to attend the University of Akron, obtaining a degree in Computer Science. Unfortunately, due to health issues, she became too ill to use the degree she worked so hard for.
Bernice was a woman of many titles and upheld the responsibility of each. Being a factory worker and a dedicated student, she was making a way for her and her children. Bernice had 5 children whom she loved dearly.
Bernice gave her life to Christ and was a devoted Christian. For many years, she was a member of Holy Temple and later became a member at Rooted in Christ Community Church.
During her early years, Bernice loved going to play bingo. However, she decided to retire that hobby after dedicating her life to Christ. In her free time, Bernice loved sewing, crafting, playing cyber games and shopping. She also loved attending church and being a wonderful grandparent. Holidays were Bernice’s favorite; she enjoyed decorating and keeping the traditions of food, faith, and family.
She was preceded in death by parents, Mary Francis Jones and Eddie Lee Jones; children, Teara Jones and William Kapell Kennedy; grandson-in-law, James (Roe) Williams; siblings, Eddie Jones Jr. and Eunice Jones; cousin, Wiley Powell Jr.; aunts, Hattie Powell and Margret White; uncle, Wiley Powell Sr.; and child’s father, Larry Summerlin.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Erica Jones, Eric Jones, and Breanna (Markee) Summerlin Turner; grandchildren, Marcez Williams, Zaria Porter, Tehier Porter, Marquetta Williams, Jessica, Josiah, Serenity, Cheokel, King, Queen, Tony, William Jr., Katylin, Armani Summerlin, Ka’Terria, Jayden and Payton Welch; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Lorene Middlebrooks and Freddie Jones; sister-in-love, Celestell Bogard Jones; nieces, Sabrina Jones and Letia Easley; nephews, Donald Jones and Calvin Middlebrooks; special friend, James Winchester; as well as a host of more family.
