Bethany Ilene Jones Parks, lovingly known as “Betty,” passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on December 23, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio, Betty was the youngest child of the late Theodore and Gladys Jones. She grew up in the Lee-Harvard neighborhood alongside her siblings Keith, Patricia, and Linda, enjoying a childhood filled with outdoor adventures and cherished memories.
Betty attended Cleveland Public Schools and later Ohio University. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, where she actively participated in the youth choir and adult usher board. Betty joined Real Gospel Missionary Baptist Church in 2014 and was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending in person.
Betty’s professional life included roles in the insurance and banking industries before she found her calling at the United States Postal Service. During her tenure there, she was deeply involved in community outreach through the Angel Tree Program, collecting and delivering toys to underprivileged children in Cleveland.
A devoted mother to her four sons – Jason Anderson (Rachel Diamond), Joshua Anderson, Jeremy Anderson (Tifany Brown), and Laron Daniel – Betty’s pride in her children was evident to anyone who knew her. Her love extended to her grandchildren, whom she adored and spoiled with joy – Joshua, Anari, Jahyier, Elijah, and Liliana Beth. She also embraced her role as stepmother to Devin Parks and shared a marriage with her husband, Michael Parks.
In 2015, Betty was diagnosed with ALS. True to her resilient spirit, she faced the disease with courage and determination. Despite the challenges, she continued to inspire those around her with her strength and unwavering love for her family. On January 5, 2025, Betty succumbed to ALS and transitioned peacefully in the arms of her family.
Betty’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May her legacy of love and perseverance bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
