Betty Joe Williams, who was affectionately known by many, went home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2025.
Betty was born on November 22, 1931 in Bessemer Alabama to Christover Blocker and Mildred Blocker. Betty loved God from a young age; she served as an usher and worshiped faithfully at The Church of the Harvest. Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was known by many as Mommy, Mrs. Williams, Aunt Betty, Mommy Williams and Grandma. Betty loved people. Her smile was infectious, she was known as βsmileyβ and she greeted everyone that she came in contact with. She never met a stranger. She could spark a conversation with anyone in her path and she always was concerned for those around her. She was a giver and gave to everyone.
Betty study Cosmetology in Brighton High School, but loved kids. She chose to open her home to children for daycare. She also Adopted and Fostered children. She would always have the neighborhood kids and now adults visit her at her home. In the summers her love was to sit on her porch to wave at those that passed by her home.
Betty was a dresser, she dressed to impress! Even when going to her Doctorβs appointments. She was known for her beautiful suits and hats. She was known as the hat Lady.
Betty loved flowers and took pride in her yard. She always enjoyed buying her flowers and shopping for good deals. She loved exercising at her gym, traveling and attending her senior group activities.
Betty is preceded by her parents, Christover Blocker and Mildred Blocker. Betty was the 6th child of Christover Blocker, She had 12 siblings, Pearline Reates, Christabelle Blocker Posey, Clyde Anthony Blocker, Bernice Blocker Kidd, Eugene A. Blocker, Mildred Louise Collier, Osceola Ragland, Inez Evelyn New, Dewitt Blocker, Alethea Marie Foster, Phyllis Cochran, and Cynthia R. Smith.
Betty loved her children, Earnest Clemons who preceded her in death, Darlene Penny Smith her Goddaughter, Theresa E. Johnson( James Johnson), Valencia J. Rojas ( Larry Rojas), Cosetta L. Uqdah (Saeed Uqdah), Jocelyn R. Williams ( Earl Benn) and Willie Bailey. She had a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
If you knew Betty, she touched your life in a special way and you loved her. She will truly be missed but never forgotten. Until we meet again!
