Betty Lou Oliver was born on September 6, 1945 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to George Oliver and Evana Powell. She was the fifth of seven children.
Betty was baptized at an early age at East Mount Zion Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH; She was educated in the Cleveland Public School System last attending Glenville High School.
Betty was affectionately known to all who knew and loved her as “Sweetie”. She enjoyed cooking and had a passion for music/dancing. Betty liked spending time at her mother’s house (The Family House). Family often gathered for holidays and other events, where she often did a lot of the cooking. You could always find her with a house full of children. She loved being a grandmother and simply adored her grandchildren.
Betty was faced with many challenges in life, but she persevered with love. Her love was consistent; she loved others unconditionally-without judgment. She was a giver, often sacrificing her last to help others, reminiscent of the story of the poor widow in the bible. The “Widow’s Offering” – when the rich gave large amounts to the temple treasury, they gave out of their wealth, but she gave out of poverty. ~Mark 12:41-44 (KJV). She was given the nickname “Sweetie” as a child, which became very befitting of her character.
She departed this life on December 7, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her father, George Oliver, her mother Evana Powell Oliver, sisters Lovie Smith, Lillian Oliver, and Delores Oliver.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory one (1) daughter, Wanda Oliver (Cleveland, OH); four (4) sons, Ernesto Oliver (Las Vegas, NV), Lorenzo Oliver (San Diego, CA), DeCarlo Oliver (Dallas, TX) and Terry Oliver (Phoenix, AZ); one (1) brother Roosevelt Oliver (Tupelo, MS); two (2) sisters Evana Jackson and Diane Hayes both of Cleveland Ohio; Grandchildren Simmie Bolden, Ernest Oliver (Shawn), Erik Oliver, DeCarlo R.
