Although born in Alabama, Bishop Hubbard traveled with his Mother to Welch, West Viginia. There he met his first wife, Mary Magdalene Rumley, and after a brief courtship formed a union. Out of this union, six children were born: Ronald Lee Hubbard, Howard Eugene Hubbard, both who preceded him in death, Richard Hubbard III, Jacqueline Yvette Hubbard, Reginald Hubbard and Darrell Eugene Hubbard.
While living in Welch, Bishop Hubbard was employed by the city as an outside laborer. Bishop Hubbard was not fond of the outdoor elements and eventually gained employment at the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, MI. After experiencing a severe medical issue, Bishop Hubbard accepted Christ and was ordained a minister into the True Holiness Temple Church organization. He served in various capacities within the organization until he founded The Free Assembly of Christ Church in 1968, serving as Bishop until he was called home.
During this time, after the death of his first wife in 1974, Bishop Hubbard entered into a union with Mildred Higginbottom. He became a Stepfather to Mildred’s children: William (Billy), Carl, who preceded him in death, Dale and Alethea.
Bishop Richard Hubbard Jr. leaves to mourn his wife Mildred, Children: Richard III (Carolyn), Jacqueline, Reginald (Faith), Darrell (Ruby), Billy, Dale, Alethea, a host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and two special cousins, Keturah Williams and Dorothy Tankard, both of Detroit MI.
