Brent Hubbard was born on December 18, 1959, to the union of Robert and Marie Hubbard in Akron, Ohio. He departed this life on November 1, 2017.
He was educated in the Akron Public Schools.. As a child, Brent was always active and busy. He expressed this lively nature in one enterprise he liked to do and held on to it through adulthood. He loved mowing lawns. Also, if you needed your car fixed, Brent always knew how to connect you with a mechanic, but as the middle man Brent expected some remuneration for his services. This is no surprise for Brent was always looking for a way to make a dollar.
As a boy, he was part of an organization that mentored young boys called Big Brothers. Brent eagerly looked forward to the times they picked him up for the meetings by the men who taught him how to fish and the art of camping. For Brent, this was a lot of fun. If fact, Brent was fun-loving but could be very serious when he felt that an injustice had been committed. He spoke his mind without flinching on these occasions. But really on the inside, Brent was a teddy bear.
Brent had a religious side, too, and one that never really left him. He may have not always observed the tenets of the Faith, but he did not mind defending what he believed his grandparents and other family elders who took him to Sunday School taught him if those things came under attack. He attended Thornton Street Church of God where as a boy he regularly attended Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Brent always maintained a respect for God and God’s people. He did not believe in pretending. On the night before his final visit to the hospital, Brent offered to share with his mother, Marie, that he had made a complete surrender. Some of us were aware that for quite some time, Brent was struggling to connect with God. God sometimes uses tough love or severe afflictions to bring us to the point of surrender. His final affliction seemed to push him over the line where he threw himself into the arms of God.
Brent loved his family a lot, but he was always looking out for “Ma” as he affectionately called his mother. He always was tracking her down to make sure she made it home safe before it got too dark. Brent loved to cook and could make some mean ribs, fried chicken, and chicken cacciatore.
Preceded in death by his son, Little Brent; father, Robert Van Herbert’ grandparents, Henry and Victoria Chaney and Amanda Young; sister, Robin Lewis; and special nephew, Darelle Fischer. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Marie Hubbard; brother, Arico Hubbard; sisters, Andrea (Byron) Neal, Caryn (Tony) Hubbard-Phillips; special niece and nephews, Robyn, Raleigh, and Ryan Greene; special friends, Billy, Larry, and Dale; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
