Carolyn S. Johnson, beloved sister, aunt, educator, and friend, peacefully departed this life on February 5, 2025. She was born on September 15, 1946, in Springfield, Ohio, to Marie and Robert Johnson, Jr., and was raised in Xenia, Ohio. A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Carolyn graduated from Xenia High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, and her Master of Library Science from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. With a passion for education and literacy, she dedicated her career to serving as a Librarian and Media Specialist at Glenville High School and Aviation High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
Carolyn was a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Phi Delta Kappa Sorority, an international professional organization for women in education. Beyond her professional life, she had a deep appreciation for family genealogy, a love of turquoise, and a spirit for adventure that led her to travel, shop, cook, and enjoy the occasional visit to a casino. Her beloved pets Shade and Spinner were her faithful companions . She is now reunited with her parents, Robert and Marie Johnson, and her niece, Shernette Young. Carolyn leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including her sisters, Roberta Johnson, Carole Coffey, and Teresa Roper; her brother, Robert K. Johnson (Arlene); and her nieces and nephews: Michelle Coffey, Monica Coffey-Faison (Maurice), Michael Coffey (LaToya), Chad Johnson, Mavis Willis (Kris), Justin Johnson (Megan), Asha Roper, Jamal Roper (Allenisia), and Matthew Johnson (Jemma). Carolyn’s legacy continues through two generations of great nieces and nephews, all of whom she adored.
Carolyn’s kindness, wisdom, and dedication to education touched the lives of many. Her family, friends, classmates, students, and colleagues will miss her deeply. In place of flowers, please consider a contribution in Carolyn’s memory to the Cleveland Public Schools.
