Celebrating the life of Carrie Hall Sunrise March 15, 1931 – May 13, 2025
Carrie B. Hall was born March 15, 1931, to Walter and Carrie (Larry) Banks in Macon, Georgia. She was the middle daughter of nine, seven of whom preceded her in death: Sarah Banks, Ora Banks, Eula Mae Coleman, Laura Dean Mitchell, Doris Bailey, Willie Mae Crite, and Daisy Lee Thompson.
On January 18, 1947, in Fort Valley, Georgia, Carrie married the love of her life, Tommie Lee Hall. Their marriage lasted over 62 years until he preceded her in death in 2009. She joined her new husband in Cleveland, Ohio, after he was discharged from the U.S. Army. Upon arriving in Cleveland, she was fondly nicknamed “Bride.” To their union, four children were born: Tommie, Jr. (deceased), Rosemary (Hall) Williams (deceased), Tamie (Hall) Carlisle, and Darryl.
Carrie was educated in the Macon Public School System in Georgia. Carrie worked as a cook, exhibiting the culinary skills she learned as a young girl at Lakewood’s infamous Miller’s Restaurant, working there for 15+ years. She later left Miller’s to work at the INA Building in Lakewood as an office cleaner so that she could spend more time with her youngest son, Darryl.
Carrie was a strong prayer warrior who loved the Lord. She received Christ at an early age in Macon, Georgia. Carrie was a devoted member of The Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio, under the pastorate of the late Pastor Earl R. Brewer and later under the leadership of Pastor Wayne D. Cox. Sis. Hall was a loyal member of the Nurses Guild, always encouraging new members to join. She was also active in the Union Missionary Baptist District Association until her health declined. Carrie had a great love for God and the people of Christ’s Temple. She supported her pastors in all endeavors, big and small, until she couldn’t. One of her pleasures in life was reading. She was also very social and loved talking on the phone to her family and friends.
One could always count on Carrie for her “pearls of wisdom.” She had a saying for many of life’s circumstances, which often made people laugh. She loved joking around.
Carrie leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children, Tamie (Hall) Carlisle (Delvor) and Darryl Hall (fiancée Sherrie); grandchildren: Darryl, Jr., Sada Feimster, Delvor (Trey) Carlisle, Russell Williams, Jr. (preceded her in death). She also leaves her only surviving sister, Virginia Moore, and brother-in-law, Rev. Otis Mitchell of Macon, Georgia. Mom was blessed with five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
