Cassandra (Sandy) Jones was born on February 16, 1963, to Lurrie and Dorothy Tisdale. Sandy was the youngest of fourteen (Deborah♥, Margie, Richelle, Darlene, Carmella, Venita, Don, Lionel, Venis♥, Lurrie, William, Larry, and Charlotte) and lived her childhood years in Cleveland, Ohio. Sandy graduated from Shaw High School and continued her education at Harding Business College, earning her Certificate of Completion as an Office Assistant. Sandy was a woman of many skills, allowing her to work various jobs within high-end retail, offices, factories, and customer service in her younger years, but her passion and aspirations were to work in entertainment, and she had the personality and wits to do it! Sandy would eventually pursue a career in broadcasting, attending the Ohio School of Broadcasting and landing an opportunity as a news reporter. Sandy loved writing poems, and every now and again you could catch a written rap song. Sandy was full of talent and creativity, which was shown in her sense of fashion, home décor, hairstyles, and makeup. Her personality was contagious, personable, and approachable.
In 1979, Sandy would give birth to her first child, Monique, and in 1984, she would give birth to her set of twins, Rickey, and Rickeya. In 1986, Sandy would marry her neighborhood crush, Rickey, and they would ultimately decide to settle and raise their family in Warrensville Heights. Sandy took pride in being a mother, protector, and friend and would often lend those same sentiments to her nieces, nephews, friends, and strangers. Sandy loved the weekends and often spent them with family and friends. She was the life of the party; she loved to laugh, turn the music on, get the grill going, and, at every opportunity, get a good ole spades game started. Sandy loved bringing smiles to everyone she reached, always thinking of how to get the fun meter going or how to encourage someone through hard times. Rather, Sandy equipped herself with the latest and greatest gag gifts, tongue twisters like “She Sells Seashells”, Laffy Taffy paper jokes, or for some, the honorary experience of a prank or two, compliments of Sandy, you were in for a good time.
Sandy spent the majority of her life as a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed creating a loving home space for her kids and eventually seven grandchildren (Fred Jr., O’Marion, James Jr., Jabari, Morgan, Savannah, and Brooklyn), who lovingly called her Nana. Sandy took pride in being a mother and grandmother, often preparing her infamous afterschool yeast rolls for her kids, writing endearing notes to go in their school lunches, showing up to as many school events as she could for her grandkids, keeping up to date with the latest dance craze moves, and video chatting with her grandkids. Sandy lived an amazing life filled with some trials along the way, but you would never know because of her resilient, fighting spirit. On Thursday, August 10, 2023, Sandy’s physical presence transitioned at Ahuja Hospital, while her spirit and soul still live on within many hearts. Sandy would often say, “Life does not come with a manual or blueprint,” but Sandy made a forever-lasting life imprint that will be missed by many.
