Charles Edward Starks Jr., also called “Booner”, was born on February 25,1966 in Akron OH. He was the only son of three children born to the union of Charles Edward and Amanda Jane Starks. He was raised in a loving home where he was taught to love God and family. It was here in the home that Charles received a solid foundation for his relationship with Christ and, with his family, attended Stow Alliance Fellowship Church accepting Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 14. He later became a member of Akron Alliance Fellowship Church under the leadership of Pastor Gus Brown.
As a young child Charles attended a Christian elementary school, later attending Perkins Middle School where he discovered his love for carpentry. Desiring to continue his love for carpentry, he chose to attend Kenmore High School where he further developed his carpentry skills, sharing his skills with family and friends. He also loved sports; track and field, throwing the shot put and the game of football; which he began playing at a very young age. An early knee injury prevented him from continuing to play the sport in high school. It however did not prevent him from being a faithful fan to his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns. The only thing that rivaled his love for football was his love for fishing. His fishing tales were numerous and fantastic and He loved sharing them and his catch at a family fish fry!!
Family and friends were always the most important part of Charles’ life. When he was young his myriad of cousins were his friends, but he attracted people everywhere he went and added friends to his family group that grew and grew over the years. He had a heart that accepted people as they were and loved them the best way he knew how.
In 1986 while working at McDonald’s Charles met the love of his life, Clarice Butler. They married on August 30, 1996 and on February 1, 2024 Charles and Clarice renewed their vows to each other; an expression of their life-long love. After working at numerous and unfulfilling jobs and being influenced by Clarice’s father and Charles’ father-in-law they obtained their CDL’s; and along with their desire to see the country, they both became long-distance truck drivers. Charles drove solo occasionally but when he teamed up with Clarice, for nine years they were a favored team that was called upon when a load absolutely had to be on time, and they delivered.
Charles was not perfect but his legacy of hard work, generosity, kindness, laughter and love will always be remembered in the hearts of those who love him.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Amanda Jane Starks and his wife, Clarice Butler-Starks.
