Charlie Lewis Brown Jr., 87, of Twinsburg Township, went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2025.
He was born in Lynch, Kentucky, on January 14, 1938, the only child of Charlie Lewis Sr. and Mozella L. Kemp Brown.
Charlie accepted Christ at an early age, being baptized by Reverend Holloway of First Baptist Church in Lynch, Kentucky. He was a lifelong member of Community A.M.E. Church in Twinsburg Township, Ohio.
In 1941, the family moved to Miles Heights (Cleveland), where he attended Moses Cleveland, Beehive Elementary, and Alexander Hamilton schools.
The family relocated to Twinsburg Township in 1952. Charlie attended the old Twinsburg High School, where he excelled as a quarterback on the football team. He graduated in 1959 and married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Lee Jones, on July 4, 1959.
Charlie was the founder and bandleader of a local rhythm and blues band called Funky People Part II. The band performed at venues throughout Northeast Ohio, including annual events at Curry’s Park (“Annual Picnic”), Tri-C’s Metro Campus (“Soul Series”), and W.H.K. Auditorium (“Rock Concert Series”), to name a few. They performed for political dignitaries, including Cleveland Mayor Carl B. Stokes, a lover of R&B music. When world-renowned artists such as Duke Ellington, The O’Jays, and The Dazz Band came to town, they often requested Funky People Part II as their backup band.
Affectionately called “Chuck” by his wife and close friends, he was a dedicated employee of the Ford Motor Company (Walton Hills Plant) for 48 years, retiring as chief crew leader of crane operations.
Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family, playing his guitar, restoring and riding his vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycle, watching sports, and tending to his garden.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret, and his children: Belinda, Tammy (Brian), Robin (Keith), Lori (Chris), and Gregory—as well as a host of family and friends.
