Watch Video TributeDearly beloved, Christine Nixon known to her family and close friends as “Chris,” was born on October 2, 1953, to the union of Charles Nixon {deceased} and Lena Nixon (Rox) {deceased}. Chris, the youngest, along with her siblings- brother Charles Nixon Jr. {deceased}, brother David Nixon {deceased} and sister Katherine Nixon grew up in the Eastside, Central neighborhood of greater Cleveland Ohio.
Chris attended Central High Middle School and later graduated from East Technical Senior High School, where she met her beau, Luke Mobley. Chris and Luke in their union had two daughters, Yolanda Nixon, and Lena Nixon. Chris dedicated her work ethics to the community at nursing home facilities as a dietary aide; the latest work location being Cedar Wood Plaza Rehabilitation Center, located in Cleveland Heights Ohio.
In her spare time, Chris enjoyed nights out on the town and hanging with her close friends. She also enjoyed long motorcycle trips out of state with her affiliates “The Afro Dogs and Firefox” Motorcycle Club (respectively). Chris’s favorite pastime was shopping, eating (“Xtra-Xtra-Xtra” Big Buford Burgers), Monday night RAW wrestling, dancing, listening to her favorite music “Atomic Dog,” and traveling to her favorite destinations- Louisville, KY., and local Amish communities.
In later years, Chris turned her life over to Christ and became a devoted member of Everlasting Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio under the pastor David Chappel. As a member, she further pursued her enjoyment of travel on charter bus trips, with church affiliates to destinations such as Tampa, FL.
Chris’s outspoken and spirited nature was slowed in 2012, following a diagnosis of COPD. She made several lifestyle changes as she battled with the illness but was diagnosed in 2016 with CHF (Amyloidosis). Chris continued to battle the illnesses while living in long term nursing facilities with a determination, to one day return to her “own home,” where she could feel most comfortable and at ease.
She endured and overcame COVID-19 in 2020, which was a demanding battle consisting of a tracheotomy, loss of mobility and several bouts with ICU’s. Being of strong will and sheer perseverance, Chris triumphantly overcame all health obstacles and received an opportunity to return to the community, into her “own home,” in January 2022.
Chris’s ecstatic joy had returned, as she enjoyed her short-term dream of “independent living” once again. However, as it is written Chris’s journey through life was noted by a stronger power and she was called to a more suitable “home” to rest with the Lord on March 4, 2022.
Chris leaves behind to cherish her memory; daughters and son-in laws, Yolanda Nixon-Lee (Shawn Lee) and Lena Nixon-Patton (Joseph Patton), sister Katherine (Kenneth Hunt), Seven grandchildren- Kieyada, Tyana, Shanice, Chelsea, Jalen, Christian and Joseph (“Joey”) junior and three great granddaughters Araylah, Ariyahn (“Bonnie”), and Ariyah. Also, to cherish her memory an extended host of nieces, great nieces/nephews and great-great-nieces/nephews, cousins, and friends.
Until we meet again; Christine will be sincerely missed in our hearts.
