Chrystal Champion was born on June 23rd, 1966 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was raised by foster parents Jimmie & Hazel Manuel (proceeded in death).
Chrystal was friendly, very sociable, caring – always smiling & said “hi” or “hey” to everyone she would meet. She had a great love for family – she loved doing her favorite hobbies; word search puzzle books, watching her favorite game shows and Madea movies/plays. She recently enjoyed going line dancing.
She attended a variety of public schools from elementary (Iowa Maple, Forest Hill Parkway), Junior High (Margaret Spellacy) – graduating from East High School in 1985.
Chrystal joined & was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church at the age of 19 under Reverend Doctor James Stallworth. She served as an Usher for many years under his pastorship and continued under Reverend Leon Stallworth. Upon merging as Mt. Sinai Friendship United Church under Senior Pastor Dr. C Jay Matthews, she continued to be an active member.
She volunteered her time at St. Joseph Collinwood. She was a school crossing guard for St. John Nottingham when her daughter attended both schools.
She worked at Twin Value as a Deli Clerk until they closed back in the 90’s. She was employed part time at the Cleveland Public Library for the Blind located on Lakeshore Blvd for over 20 years – until failing health prevented her from working.
She went home to be with the Lord on December 19th, 2025, while at home surrounded by family members. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Marie Johnson, one sister Leola (Sam) Epps, sister-in-law/brother-in-law Sandria (Michael) Dixon, devoted family friend Deborah (Sam) Flowers, devoted cousins Mildred Dailey, Dolly Dailey, James Dailey, Patricia (James) Johnson, along with a host of cousins and many, many friends & coworkers.
