Cleo Grant was born in Forkland, Alabama on the 20th of April 1941, to Ella Weston Grant and Abraham Grant (Abe). This marriage produced nine children: Abraham, Ezra, Lee, Novel, Fannie, Annie, Cleo, Henretta and Ora. The family was close and hard workers on the family farm. Cleo was raised in church and accepted Christ as a teenager. He served at the Greater Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH faithfully until his health declined.
Following his graduation from Greene County Training School in Boligee, Alabama he joined the Army to serve and protect our country where he excelled and medaled as a Sharpshooter. After his honorable discharge in 1965 he moved to the Midwest, finally settling in Cleveland. He was employed at The Addressograph-Multigraph Corporation until he started a business (Grant’s Grocery) with his brother in 1970. Cleo and his brother Novel Grant received the key to the city in 2004 for having one of the longest standing minority businesses in Cleveland, Ohio.
Cleo married the love of his life Laura McCoy on the 20th of May 1972. During this 52-year marriage he was the loving Father of 3 children Samuel (Richelle) Grant Sr. (Ohio), Lariece (Michael) Monique Brown (Maryland), and Tyre Grant (Indiana).
Cleo is also survived by his sisters Henrietta Watson and Ora Cherry located in Texas. Loving in laws Johnny Gray McCoy, William McCoy and Alfonza McCoy in Alabama and Christine (McCoy) James of Michigan. Four grand-children (3 bonus grand-children), 4 great grand-children. Also, special niece Wanda (Felix) Smith (OH) and a host of cousins nieces, nephews and dear friends.
