Clyde Levitt Sr. was born on January 9, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio, the eldest son of Charlestine and Fred Booker Sr. He was baptized at an early age and educated in the Cleveland Public School System.
At the age of 18, Clyde answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served for 18 years, with assignments in Japan, Hawaii, Virginia, and various Marine bases throughout the United States. During his honorable service, Clyde earned numerous military distinctions recognizing his skill, discipline, and dedication. His honors included the Sharpshooter Rifle Qualification, Expert Rifle Qualification Badge, Expert Pistol Qualification Badge, the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, and a Meritorious Mast, awarded for outstanding performance and professionalism beyond the call of duty.
Clyde was the proud father of two children, Clyde Levitt Jr. and Shelby Charlestine Levitt. He deeply loved his family and found joy in expressing that love, especially during family gatherings. As the oldest sibling, he embraced his role as “the big brother,” making sure his siblings knew his presence, guidance, and love were always there. He will be lovingly remembered for his many daily phone calls—often brief, but always ending with his familiar words, “You know I love you, right?”
Clyde had a love for music, style, and cologne, and he carried himself with confidence and individuality. His life was complex and at times challenging, yet it was marked by resilience, growth, and an enduring devotion to those he loved.
While Clyde took great pride in his service as a United States Marine, his greatest accomplishment was becoming an ordained minister. His faith in the Lord never wavered, and he stood firmly on that faith regardless of the challenges he faced. His spiritual journey was a source of strength, purpose, and hope to those around him.
Clyde was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Charlestine. His father, Fred Booker Sr., passed away just two days after Clyde’s transition. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Clyde Levitt Jr. and Shelby Charlestine Levitt; his siblings, Addie (James), Fred Jr. (JoAnn), Maurice (Rena), Robin, Shawn (Theopolis II), and Kevin (Angyne), Meeko, Duanne (Johanna). He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Clyde Levitt Sr. will be remembered for his service, his faith, his love for family, and the lasting impression he leaves on all who knew him. He now rests in eternal peace—forever faithful to his calling, his faith, and his family. Semper Fi.
