Darryl Jermaine Ivey, aka “Jujay” or “Keywaun”, was born March 4, 1986, in Cleveland, Ohio to Pamela Ivey and Darryl Warren. He graduated from Shaw High School in 2004. He then attended Toledo State University.
The ladies loved them some Keywaun, his alter ego created by him and his cousin, Chris “Chrishaun”, to woo women. While he was a ladies’ man, Darryl was also the definition of an upstanding gentleman. Darryl always said he would take care of his mother and sisters, but his reach extended far beyond that. He was a true family man, spending time taking his nephews to the park, teaching his daughter, niece, and cousin to drive, and mentoring his little cousin, Kaivon. He always went the extra miles to support and help his family and friends. From daily calls, plowing yards, cutting grass, or sending consistent check-in messages, Darryl had a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Darryl worked as a driver for JB Hunt, Coca Cola, and Belview. On or off the clock he was a hard worker which was a testament to Darryl’s work ethic. Darryl was a jack of all trades, mover, and truck driver. Groomed well by his stepdad, Robert “Bob Big Wrench”, he was also a handyman and mechanic. You name it he did it (except for cooking, he was far from a chefl; chips, a tv dinner, and a Clear Fruit was his go-to meal).
Darryl was a car enthusiast, taking pride in his cars from the Caprice he inherited from his grandfather to his Challenger that he purchased himself. He loved his car, especially with big rims, 30-inch rims to be exact. Beyond tending to his car, he also loved attending car shows, both locally and nationally. Traveling was another passion of Darryl’s, whether it was the islands, the city, or the mountains, a weekend trip would definitely catch his eye. A cheap trip if it was a one day or one week trip, Darryl managed to always pack light fitting everything into a backpack.
“God will do it” was a phrase Darryl stood on as he walked this life in faith. As a boy, his Suga Mama rooted in him the importance and relevance of prayer. Darryl was a strong believer in God, and accepted Christ at a young age at his family church, Lively Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
He will be received in heaven with open arms by his grandparents, John D. and Claudia Ivey.
Darryl is survived by his parents, Pamela Ivey Sims (Robert Sims) and Darryl (Sonja) Warren; his daughter, Kimorah Ivey; sisters Tia Sims, Tamera Sims, and Sheria Appling; his special aunts, Sharon (David) Knowlton and Evelyn Smith; niece Takayla Fluker and nephew Pierre Longino; first cousins Brittney Perkins, Kaivon Swift, Ka’Mari Ashley, road dog A1 since day one Andrea Ashley (Derrick Ashley); special cousin Christopher Palmer; honorary brother Tesman Fluker; godchildren Teaja Ivey, Rayvon Whatley, Rayshawn
