DEMEL KEITH CURRY, the fourth son of Deon Curry and Melanie Bailey. Demel entered this world June 19, 1999. As Demel grew, him and his brothers were typical mischievous boys. They did things like double-dog-dares, pranks, fight, wrestle, hug, and protect each other. Nerf gun fights as pre-teens, water fights, watching movies, and hanging with his cousins where some of his favorite things to do. His family soon learned that Demel would be the life of the party. He didn’t meet anyone that was a Stranger. He was a ray of light, so adventurous. He was not afraid to take risks. Anyone around him would have a good time. Either you loved him or you didn’t, and it was hard not to love him. His smile was big and his laugh was contagious. His sense of humor always made you love him more. Demel had all the love in the world to give because that’s how much love he wanted back. His hugs would heal your heart.
Demel graduated from Barberton High School May 22, 2017 with a certificate in Carpentry. Demel found his first passion in carpentry. Him earning the carpentry certification encouraged him to keep going. Demel ran track in high school and was really good at it. He was offered a full ride scholarship to Notre Dame College, Cleveland, Ohio, in 2017. However, Demel decided to enlist into the United States Army in stead.
Demel was trained to be a 12B/12C Combat Engineer/Bridge Crewmember. “One of the elite! I’m a Sapper!” he would say. He was proud of the things he learned and accomplished, like building bombs and taking them apart and building bridges. It didn’t matter to him that the life expectancy, while being one of the elite, a Sapper, was less than a few minutes. It was the thrill and the challenge to win that motivated him. He couldn’t see himself doing anything else but serving his country and taking care of his family.
Demel made friends wherever he would go! It didn’t matter who you were or where you came from. He wanted to be everyone’s protector and big brother, he never met a stranger. While he was in Texas, he made more friends whom he’d call his sisters and brothers. He was elated to find out his high school friend, Raheem Cooper, would be stationed with him in Texas! They were inseparable. Brothers. Protectors of each other. He later found a good friend in Keshundra French, they married each other, briefly, while in the military. He later found Shanice Ahouansou, the mother of his son, Sage Osama Michael Curry (now 4 years old). They were like two balls of fire together, Demel met his match with Shanice. She loved him with all her heart and he loved her too.
After Demel came home from the Army, he met Makayla McCraney, the mother of his second son, Kylan Pierre McCraney (now 1 year old) and his yet unborn baby girl. The love Demel & Makayla shared together will be forever. Demel deeply loved all his children, and he wanted nothing more than to give them everything in his power to give. Demel was a proud father, he was so happy to be a dad.
