Derrick is survived by his loving and strong mother, Minnie and his siblings Petey and Danielle. His father, Darrell Sr. passed away October 20th of 2019 and Derrick suffered from a broken heart until the day of his passing. He is also survived by his beloved dog Blue, his partner Kourtney Hill and a host of other close friends and family who will miss him dearly.

We only had the privilege of knowing Derrick in person for one fantastic week in March 2019. Derrick was an extraordinarily kind, generous, and hilarious person. It was a privilege to spend joyful evenings chatting away and to hear stories of his life that he shared with us. He went above and beyond for us and truly made our trip. We were so lucky to stay in touch with him after we left Mexico, and hoped one day to welcome him to Australia for a visit. We were shocked and deeply sad to hear of his passing, and wanted to pass on our deepest condolences to his family. I have many memories of Derrick, as he was my roomate for several years. He had long conversations, ate cheesecake like the golden girls, laughed until we cried, and argued like brothers.
