With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Diane M. Smith, who left us peacefully on May 30, 2024, at Marymount Hospital. Diane was 80 years old. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Diane lived a life filled with love, generosity, and cherished memories.
Diane was born to Fred and Magnolia Russell, both of whom preceded her in death. She was the beloved granddaughter of Laura and Asberry Russell, who also preceded her. Growing up in Cleveland, Diane was surrounded by the warmth and support of her family, which shaped her into the compassionate and loving person she became.
In 1972, Diane married the love of her life, Findley E. Smith, who also has passed away. Their union was blessed with four wonderful children: James White Jr., Sarene Saffo (Dana), Latrese Smartt (Larenzo), and John F. Smith. Diane’s dedication to her family was unwavering, and her home was always a haven of love and support.
Diane is also survived by her siblings: Zaletta (Cindy) Russell, Alita Russell, Shirley Wilson, Sharon Russell, and Ravi Shah. She was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Russell. Diane’s relationships with her siblings were marked by deep affection and mutual support, and they were an integral part of her life. She also leaves behind one great-grandchild, Derrohn, and a host of nieces and nephews who she adored and who brought her tremendous joy.
A proud graduate of East Tech High School, Diane worked at the Cleveland Clinic for over 30 years until she retired. She was known for her dedication and hard work, touching the lives of many through her career and sound advice. Everyone remembers her as a beacon of positivity, and even those who cared for her in the hospital became attached to her infectious positive attitude and sense of humor, which she maintained even through her illness.
Diane’s passions included cooking and spending holidays with family. She enjoyed creating delicious meals and celebrating special occasions with her loved ones. Diane was very independent and had so much love for her children, grandchildren, and family. She was also very caring and generous, always willing to help those in need.
