Dorothy Jean Bridges went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2018. Dorothy leaves to cherish and mourn her passing her loving son, Alvin Sr., her loving mother, Fannie Bell Bridges; 4 brothers, Sugar Ray, Johnnie Ray, Abraham Lincoln, and Andrew Lee; and one sister, Tammy Francis, one grandson, Alvin Jr., and one great-great grandson, Mekhi, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy Jean Bridges was born on March 20, 1957 to the union of Fannie Bell and Eugene Bridges in Cleveland, Ohio. Dorothy was the fifth of seven children. She graduated from the Old East High School in 1975. She continued her education at Dyke College, graduating in 1983 achieving an Associate’s Degree.
Dorothy had an amazing work ethic. She began her employment history soon after graduation, working at the F.W. Woolworths Department Store on East 105th Street, and then on to becoming employed with the Internal Revenue Service until her health made it too difficult for her to continue.
Dorothy loved going to the Bingo Hall, and everyone who was close to her knew where they could find her, if she were not around. And when she won, you never knew. She was the life of the party, with crazy dancing, and listening to old school music, especially her favorite song was the “Double Dutch Bus,” along with music her next favorite hobby was watching the “Food Chanel,” her favorite food was her mother’s fried corn and peach cobbler.
Dorothy was a very devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had unconditional love for her family and was not shy about what family meant to her.
