Edward Johnson Jr. better known as Eddie/Ed, celebrated his birth April 5, 1947, estimated birth date of April 23, 1950 was provided as documents burned in the city and state of Safford, Alabama where he was born to Edward Johnson Sr. and Frances Johnson who preceded him in death. Eddie attended Martin Station Elementary School to be short lived due to working regulations for African Americans at that time in the state of Alabama. He eventually moved to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of sixteen where he stayed with his uncle Joe George who preceded him in death.
Eddie worked in the medical field serving and taking care of people at local nursing homes and University hospital. Eddie enjoyed life, loved people, and did things on his own terms. He was talented and wise in so many ways. He was a hustler and had many trades. Eddie had a passion for fishing and working on vehicles; he loved fixing things and trying to figure things out. He enjoyed playing cards, shooting craps, and throwing bones (he loved talking stuff too). Eddie loved dancing, anytime he had the chance to shake his butt, he did. He loved music, especially the blues such as “these last two dollars”, “down home blues”, and “the thrill is gone” just to name a few of his favorites. Eddie’s most loved possessions were his wife, children, and family. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed the cookouts, parties, graduations, pop-up visits, dinner outings, birthdays, just because days, father’s days, shopping sprees, lottery tickets, holidays, store runs, and any moment he was able to spend with you. He loved it because he loved you; NEVER FORGET THAT! HE LOVED YOU! Eddie believed that Jesus Christ was His Savior and he was saved.
He leaves to cherish fond memories and celebrate his life; wife of 45 years, Delores L. Johnson; children, Marguerite Payne, Monique Payne, Stepdaughter, Angela Payne-Johnson, Katherine Johnson, Shirley Johnson, Karolyn Johnson, James Blankenship, and Edwana Ikesha Taylor; sisters, preceded him in death, Mattie Hawkins and Esther Spencer; Marguerite Sanders, Roberta Brown, Catherine Davis, Estella Reese, Betty Miller (Carlos Miller); brothers, preceded him in death, Willie James Sanders, Joe Johnson, and Sam Johnson; Eugene Johnson, and Monroe Johnson (Angela Johnson) and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, special family and friends.
