Eric Pierre Massey Sr. “Aka” Pookie was born to Annie and John Massey at City Hospital in Akron, Ohio, on February 23, 1963. Eric and his family grew up on Frederick Blvd, where he made many friends. Eric loved to play sports and won “MVP” in 1976, playing football for the North Pee Wee team. He attended John R. Buchtel CLC High School class of 82′. Eric was a Christian and knew the lord. He was a Mount Olive Baptist Church member, where he was baptized and ordained as a Deacon. Eric loved to watch the Steelers play. He also loved bowling and playing pool. He loved to cook and loved his family. Eric owned a host of businesses. His most recent was his landscaping business, where he flourished and made many friends and bonus family.
Eric is preceded in death by his Mother, Annie L Massey; Father, John L Massey; his brothers, John L Massey and Christopher Mckissick; and beloved daughter, Erica Queanna Massey—special Aunt Maxine Jones (Winters) and special cousins Gary Hartwell and Lola Coker and Duwarn and Gerard Simpson. Special Uncle’s Gus and Cledus and Timothy Winters.
Those left to remember his life and honor his memory are his siblings Darrell and Darren Jeffries, Michael Massey, sister; Dloris Dudley, Leon Hill, Damone James, Julian Lynn, and Kristopher Massey. Special Sister; Rita (Sister) McClure and Helen Davis. Children: Jermaine, Allison, Eric Jr., Derek Sr., and Jacob Massey. Grandkids: Janiah, Jaden, Jada, Jeremiah, Coryion, Derrick, Cincere, Eric lll, Derek Jr. Great-grand; Mi’Yanni. Also, host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
