Ethelyn Caffee, 94, was born January 27, 1928, to Demas Felder and Rita Ann Daniel in Montgomery County, Alabama. She was the eldest of 2 children. Her brother, Amos Felder, preceded her in death in 2013. Ethelyn loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ at an early age. She graduated from Loveless High School in Montgomery, Alabama.
She began her workforce and acquired experience in various fields including hair stylist, and elevator operator at Montgomery Ward Department Store, managing her mother’s grocery store called “Cleveland Ave Grocery Market,’ and as a seamstress alongside her best friend as they designed clothes and sold them. During this time, she met and married Willie Lee Wilson (deceased) and to this union Rita Pandora ‘Pam’ was born
In 1960, Ethelyn moved to Cleveland, Ohio to care for her uncle Newton Daniel. It was in Cleveland that she met and married Winston Caffee (deceased) and became a devoted housewife and mother to Steven Caffe. Ethelyn joined and became an active member of Zion Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Robert M. Berry (deceased) and continued her membership under the pastoral leadership of Pastor George O. Stewart (deceased, 2022).
Ethelyn was a dedicated employee working as a Knitting Machine Operator making fabrics for Dalton Knitting Mills for 23 years until her retirement. She also dedicated time as an Ohio Election Poll Worker, Pooh County Daycare as an assistant teacher and transportation driver for children, as well as worked as a receptionist under the NCBA Employment Program for Bellflower Center. Ethelyn was a life learner and at the age of 60 she obtained her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development from Cuyahoga Community College.
Ethelyn had a warm and loving spirit and was well known for opening her heart and home to those in need. She had a true passion for life and lived every moment. She loved entertaining family and friends, cooking, reading books, gardening indoor and outdoor, cratts, swimming, roller skating, card parties, traveling, and even upholstering furniture and curtains. There was nothing she couldn’t repair! Everything from small auto car repair to rewiring lamps. Her family and loved ones meant the world to her as evident by the collection of favorable pictures of family and friends displayed on her TV room wall.
Ethelyn was an amazing woman, well-rounded independent, wise, lovable, caring, a strong faith spiritual women who was greatly loved. Her favorite music genre was Gospel and Blues and her favorite artist was Mahalia Jackson. She often listened to Jimmy Swaggart as well. She was a fashionista and enjoyed playing dress up with her daughter Pam and taking pictures. She would often speak fondly and remind us of her favorite 1st cousin David Daniel, Sr. (deceased). Nothing came before her love for God, her daughter, and her grandchildren.
Ethelyn completed her journey on the night of Friday, July 22, 2022. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughter, Rita ‘Pam’ Alexander (Ricardo); son, Steven Caffee (Michelle); grandchildren, Jacquees Steward, Arsenio Blakley (Shawnte), Armando Wilson (Tangie); great grandchildren, Koureon Payton, Pandora Blakley, Taylor Chapman, Tori Wilson, Zoe Wilson and her favorite great grand-dog Ice. She also leaves to cherish her memory with a host of step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives from the Daniel, Felder and Wilson families and many more cherished friends.
