Eugene Oliver Johnson, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2025, at the age of 72.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ferdinand Johnson Sr. and Cecile Mae Johnson, Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lucille, and brother Ferdinand Johnson Jr.
Eugene’s life was a testament to hard work, dedication, and a love for life.
Eugene was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was known for his famous barbecue ribs that delighted all who had the pleasure of tasting them. A graduate of East Tech High School, Class of 1970, Eugene went on to work for Ford Moto Company, where he dedicated over 35 years of his life before retiring. He was also a proud member of the Black Panthers, and the “Dirty 9”.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Aletha Johnson. The two met many years ago and have been sharing life together ever since. His legacy continues through his children: Darcelle, Eugene Vince, Eugene “Doc” (Teona), and Tiffany; his stepdaughters, Tracee and Robyn; his siblings, Carol (Fred), Elaine and Winifred; along with four sister-in-laws, Gertrude (Gert), Augustine (a.k.a Tina-Ma), Othelia (a.k.a Dee-Dee), and another brother-in-law, Lapolean “Po” Jamerson.
Eugene was blessed with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren include William, Erica, Brian, Daija, Ashelee, Leah, Eugene III, Dontai (Alexis), R’mya, Bruce Jr., and Brevin. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, friends and two special aunts, Myrna Solomon and Opal Hardaway, who will cherish his memory.
Eugene’s life was filled with countless memories.
