Eva Pauline Moon Garden was born in 1929 in Hugoton, Kansas to Sandy and Rachel Moon, loving farmers and farm owners. Graduating high school in 1947, Eva was one of ten siblings. She would leave the farm where she was raised for Lincoln University, Missouri and earn a Bachelor of Arts in music. Degree in hand, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1952 and met her future husband, Myrvin Garden soon thereafter. They married on February 27, 1954 and would have three children, Leonard, Paula and Everett.
The family would later join Plymouth Church of Shaker Heights where Eva sang soprano as a faithful choir member for 30 years. Once the children grew, Eva joined the workforce as an elementary school teacher and later became an administrator of the Head Start program of the Catholic Diocese of Greater Cleveland, retiring in 1998.
Eva was a skilled seamstress and couturiere, sewing clothing and apparel for family and friends. She continued to sing, sew and knit until dystonia impaired her voice and arthritis made it difficult to handle fabric or yarn. Widowed at 70, Eva persevered and by age 95, had been the sole surviving member of the Moon siblings for years. As elder matriarch she demonstrated much grace and favor to friends and loved ones, contributing generously from the resources she and her husband prudently stewarded for decades.
She posed many acts of charity and faith through grace because as she would explain, “…I, beforehand, received grace…” She was not perfect, but under pressure she was tough as nails, enduring pain and disability without much complaint. She fought the good fight and is now in the arms of her Loving Savior, enjoying His promises. Eva was predeceased by: her parents, Sandy Moon and Rachel Moon. She is survived by her three children and their spouses; Leonard Garden (Pauline, Anguila), Paula Dancie (Wayne), Everett Garden (Terri)
