Frances Helen (Seafes) Carter was called home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, February 5, 2021. On May 22, 1935, Helen was born to the late Joseph Thomas and Martha Seafes Jones in Philadelphia, PA, but raised in Harlem, New York. She met the love of her life, Eugene Carter, while he was serving in the military and stationed in New York. They were married in 1951 and relocated to Akron, Ohio to raise their family.
What can you say about Helen…devoted wife, beloved and cherished mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she was all about family. She also knew that you get the most from life when you treat everyone with “love and kindness.” She enjoyed life and understood the importance of family and friends, because she was blessed, she was able to bless others. We celebrate her love, her life, and her legacy. We will cherish her memory forever!
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Thomas and Martha Seafes Jones; husband, Eugene D. Carter, Sr.; daughter, Cynthia Marie Carter, and son, Reginald K. Carter, Sr.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Patricia Helen Carter (Mansfield), and Debbie Renee Carter (Akron); son, Eugene D. Carter, Jr. (Florida); brother, Donald Gibson of Bowie, Maryland; daughter-in-law, Denise Carter; grandchildren, JoVan Carter, Jasmine Carter, Olajuwon Carter, Reginald Carter, Jr., Julius Carter, Sophia Carter Ingram, Trina Carter, Melissa Carter, Crystal Ferguson, Christina Wallace, and great-grandchildren; special adopted daughters: Celeste Shelton and Sheila Mitchell and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; special caregivers and friends, Elaine Williams, Leanna Jansen, and Ezzard McCall.
