Geneva Gant Morris was born September 6, 1932 in Camden, Alabama to late parents Sam “Buddy” Gant and Katie Ree Gant.
At an early age, Geneva confessed Christ and united with the Pine Level A.M.E. Church in Camden, Alabama where she remained a faithful member until moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 1954. In Cleveland, Ohio she united with St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church to continue her relationship with Christ.
After graduating from Camden Academy in 1950, Geneva married her high school sweetheart Willie Morris who remained her faithful companion until his death in 1981. Their union was further blessed with the birth of five children, three of whom preceded her in death.
In 1954, the young family relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where Geneva was a dedicated worker at Republic Steel (later renamed “LTV Steel”), from which she retired in 1998.
Outside of work and family, Geneva had many talents and hobbies. She spent lots of her free time traveling, enjoying herself with friends at casinos, or watching sports. Geneva was an avid sports fan, known to excitedly cheer for her Cleveland teams. A very active person, Geneva was always involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Additionally, she cultivated a flourishing garden, applying her love for things of beauty.
She had a keen eye and a great sense of fashion and loved shopping.
Geneva’s husband Willie Morris, Sr. and three of their children, Gloria Jean Morris, Tchernavian Payne, and Willie Morris, Jr. preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving sister, Hattie Mae Martin; children Durrell Morris (Monique), and Marika Morris (Alonzo); grandchildren Anthony Payne, Jr., Briana Payne (Michael), Courtney Payne (Derek), Jasmine Little, Gabrielle Morris, Khyler Allums, and Lenera Morris; and great-grandson Ky’Aire Armond Price. She additionally leaves behind one loving son- in-law, Anthony Payne, Sr. as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
After 90 marvelous years of life, Geneva was called home to heaven on July 23, 2023. Her memory will be cherished forever by her family and friends, who hold her spirit with them as they adjust to her transition to the afterlife.
