George Allen was born on May 9, 1930, in Hermansville, Mississippi, to the late William and Betsie Allen.
George dedicated over 30 years of his life to Atlantic Foundry, from which he retired in 1988. He also worked part-time as a security officer for a number of years.
A dedicated Christian, George was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for over 60 years. He enjoyed being a part of the congregation and shared his love of music by singing in the Men’s Choir.
In June of 1954, George married the love of his life, Ivory Allen. Shortly thereafter, they relocated from Mississippi to Akron, Ohio, where they raised their beautiful family of all girls.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ivory Allen, on September 15, 2021; their youngest daughter, Jeanette Allen; his four siblings, Bertha Brown, Katie Eddying, Alberta Brindon, and Robert Lee Allen; and his special friend, Joseph Nuby.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Loretta Webb, Joyce Allen, and Helen (Garland) Allen-Jones. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Jerome (Nychelle) Thomas, Kowshara (Demond) Scott, Corrina (Troy) Berry, Gyasi Jones, Marcus (Tymeco) Allen, Ala’Qua-nirel (Tory) Morton, and Felicia Manson, as well as a host of cherished great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George’s greatest joy was his family, whom he loved to gather and feed, especially on the holidays. He was widely known for his infamous Key Lime Pie, which he made to perfection every single time. A devoted collector of classic cars, George could often be found meticulously waxing one of his beauties in the driveway. He also took great pride in his home, maintaining an impeccably manicured lawn and tending to his garden. He was always smiling, but his smile was brightest when he was surrounded by his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Poppa.”
