Gerald Wayne Bryant was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 30th, 1954, to the union of the late William Sr., and Annie Bryant. Gerald was the sixth oldest of eight children.
Gerald attended Cleveland Public Schools, attending Franklin Delanor Roosevelt Junior High School, and graduated from Glenville High School, graduating in 1972. Immediately after high school he worked at the Post Office and at Cleveland Clinic. To further his goals in life he went back to school to gain the necessary training to become a Machinist. He went to work for Cleveland Steel Tools and recently retired from Norman Noble after 32 years.
He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized on May 28, 2000, at Cleveland Church of Christ under the pastorate of Bishop Lincoln C. Haughton, III. Gerald was a member of the Friends of Glenville AA Group and recently celebrated his 35th anniversary of sobriety, He also served as the treasurer for over 20 years.
Gerald (known to some as “Joe Wayne” or “Hodge”) was an active partner in Club Jazzy’s in Euclid. He was passionate about many things, sports, fishing, cars, gathering with family and friends, the “Tarblooders”, his dogs “Heavy” and “Layla” and their baby “Brute.” But most of all, he loved to shop. Gerald was one of the best dressed men in Cleveland and he kept Mr. Albert and Martin Men’s Wear in business. They will truly miss him (along with all of us).
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers William Jr., Ronald and Larry Bryant. Just hours after his passing, his sister, Cynthia Bryant, was also called home to join the family.
Gerald leaves to mourn his passing his son Gerald Turner; daughters Brittany Turner and Nicole White; sisters Beverly Grant and Deborah Scott; brother Delbert Bryant; grandsons Gerald Cole, and Jamir Cliff; granddaughter Jaya Cliff, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
