Gloria Jean Smith, affectionately known as Glo Jean, passed away on June 7, 2024, at the tender age of 75. She was born on December 29, 1948, in Hueytown, AL, to the union of Cora Gaffney (Jones) and Simon Gaffney. Gloria was a sister to Samuel, Robert Lee, and Charles. She was married to Theodore Smith (Ted) and they had two wonderful children, David (Michael) and Theodore Turner who she adored.
Gloria had a zest for life and enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including crocheting, visiting the casino, and cooking. She had a particular fondness for down south cuisine, okra, Pepsi, and coffee. But above all, Gloria’s greatest joy came from being a devoted grandmother and mother.
In her free time, Gloria could often be found watching her favorite TV shows, “Young and Restless”, and “General Hospital, and the Housewives series”. She also extended her hand to help others without complaint. Gloria was a gentle soul, she wanted to make everyone around her happy with what she had to offer.
Professionally, Gloria had a successful career and retired from University Hospitals. She received many recognitions for a job well done, which aligned to her character outside of work.
A devoted Baptist, Gloria’s religious beliefs held a special place in her heart. During her last days, she requested to listen to her gospel music on repeat while in the hospital bed as she was preparing for her ascend into heaven. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Gloria leaves behind a legacy of love through her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children.
Gloria precedes in death her parents Simon and Cora; brothers, Robert Lee and Charles; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories her boys David (Yavonda), and Theodore (Brandee), grandchildren, David Jr., Kamryn, Brittany, Kianna, Donovan, Theonee, Kierstyn, Theodore ll, Friend, her bonus grandchildren all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Uncle, Lewis Gaffney, Brother, Sammy Jo. Cousins, Chris, Bev and Gina whom were more like sisters to her; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to all who she adored and loved.
