Granville Julian Journée Jr., affectionately known as Big Daddy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully February 1, 2025, at the age of 88. He was born in New Orleans, LA on October 11, 1936, to Monica & Granville Journée Sr. At a young age, the family moved to Cleveland, OH, where Granville graduated from Glenville High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was a proud veteran who served his country with honor.
After his military service, Granville became a skilled pipefitter and retired from Local Union 120. His career also included working for Ford and Gould (Westinghouse), demonstrating a strong work ethic throughout his life.
Granville’s passion for life extended well beyond his profession. Known for his culinary skills, winemaking, and his love of sports and music, he was an outgoing man who cherished time spent with family and friends. He had a vibrant personality, a great sense of humor, and a deep love for laughter, dancing, and fun. Leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His joy for life was evident as he sought new experiences through travel, fishing, and live performances.
Granville was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years who he met in 1982, Nancy Johnson Journée. Together they shared decades of love, laughter, adventure, and cherished memories.
Granville had three children from previous unions: Cheryl (with Loretta) and Brian & Steven (Lenzie) (with Judy). In his marriage to Nancy, he embraced three stepchildren: Sandra Johnson (Sam Suggs), Michele Johnson, and Tyrone Johnson.
Granville was a loving father and grandfather, leaving behind seven grandchildren: Alyssa, Brittni, Briana, Brijae, Braylon, Isaac, Steven Jr., and a host of step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he loved them deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monica and Granville Journée Sr.; his siblings, Navarro, Monica “Lois”, and Gloriaette “Pat”; and his beloved daughter, Cheryl.
Granville will forever be remembered for his boundless love, infectious laughter, and the joy he brought to every room he entered. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
