Gregory Hayes, affectionately known as Pork Chop, was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 6, 1957, to the late Ernestine and Chris Hayes.
Gregory attended the Cleveland Public School system. After graduating high school, Gregory began a career in the truck industry. He started on the loading docks for American Poultry and quickly escalated to a truck driver. For over 40 years, he delivered for various companies, including Miller, Budweiser and Colt45. During his retirement, Gregory still had a desire to work. In 2022, he started as a delivery driver for Orban’s Fruits and Flowers.
Gregory married Carmencita Isom in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. To that union were born three wonderful children. Twin girls, Thea and Dea and a son, Gregory.
Gregory was baptized at an early age and attended Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Even though he was not a member of a church, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior while he was a resident of Grande Oaks Nursing Home.
Gregory had a passion for all Cleveland sports teams, especially the Cleveland Browns. He was the Grill Master of the family and was loved by everyone. Gregory always tried to keep a cheerful and optimistic outlook on life despite his illness. Gregory was a fighter and continued to be a strong and loving force in the lives of his loved ones.
On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 2:52 pm at Ahuja Medical Center Gregory was called home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dea Hayes, the mother of his children, Carmencita Hayes, his brother Reginald and sister Patricia Hayes Groom. He leaves to cherish his memory two children Thea and Gregory (Begsy); two grandchildren Eli and Nevaeh, Siblings; Joann, Tony (Sandra), and Leslie Michelle (Carl); one Uncle Raymond (Marie); Eleven nieces and nephew, and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, family and friends.
He will be deeply missed, but the seeds he planted in the hearts of those who knew him will continue to grow and flourish for generations to come.
