Grover Earl Smith, also known as Smitty, was born on April 11, 1948, in Gadsden, AL to Clarence and Mabel (Woodward) Smith who both preceded him in death.
He accepted Christ at an early age. Muh, Grover’s mother, stressed prayer and he was faithful to his upbringing. When he rose from sleep and before going to bed, he always gave God the glory.
Grover lived in Jacksonville, AL and graduated from Hobson City High School in 1967. He moved to Cleveland and was employed as an electrician at Ford Motor Company, Walton Hills Stamping Plant from 1968 until his retirement in 2014. He dedicated 46 years of service. On August 28, 1971, he married Andretia Willis and to that union three children were born, Grover Jr., Orlawna and Tenesha Smith. Grover Jr. preceded him in death.
Grover loved to travel and after retirement enjoyed cruising, casinos, and yearly vacations with his family. One of his favorite pastimes was watching cartoons in his big white comfy chair. He was adamant about attending his high school class reunions and was exuberant about attending his most recent one in July.
God visited Grover on August 26, 2023, and called this “Angel” home to rest from his labor. He was preceded by his siblings: Ruby Scott, Betty Jean Smith, Queenie Flakes and Frederic Smith.
To cherish and honor his loving memory will be his two loving daughters: Orlawna Smith and Tenesha (Isaiah) Smith of Cleveland, OH; seven grandchildren: Alawna Spicer, Tiah Charlton, Imari Charlton, Iniya Charlton, Orlando Smith-Carle, Isaiah Charlton V and Aydian Smith-Wilder; two sisters: Gracie Higginbottom, Akron, OH, and Gloria (Kenneth) Loftis, Gadsden, AL; two brothers: James Smith and Harry Smith both of Cleveland, OH; a very special nephew, George Flakes and longtime personal friends: Richard Willis and Claudette Watkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who loved him dearly.
