Henry William Spragling went home to be with the Lord on January 15, 2023. William was born in Yantely, Alabama on February 23,1950. He attended Choctaw County Training School. While attending Choctaw County Training School, he played on the football team. After graduating, William was awarded a scholarship and attended Alabama A&E College. He was employed by the Chrysler Corp. at the Twinsburg Stamping Plant as a forklift driver, retiring after 35 years of service.
William was united in holy matrimony to Gloria on July 4, 1992. William accepted Christ at an early age and joined the New Mission Missionary Baptist Church. Where he was a faithful servant and trustee. You can count on one hand how many times he missed church. He loved his church and pastor, Pastor Aaron; they referred to themselves as the “Alabama Boys.”
William was a lover of life and people; he never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. He often placed their needs above his own and made sure his family never lacked for anything. William enjoyed cooking, fishing, and spending time with his sidekicks: Loreal “Stank-Stank,” and Zyana “Shugga.” He loved gardening and would spare no expense in making his yard beautiful with his favorite flowers.
William was preceded in death by parents, Collie Spragling, Sr., and Sallie Mae Spragling-Lockett; stepfather, Allen Lockett; brothers, Melven, Cloyed, and Collie Spragling, Kenny Wayne, and Emanuel Lockette; sisters, Armie Lee Spragling, and Lorene Poole.
He leaves to cherish and celebrate his life, his wife, Gloria Spragling; beloved children, James, and Kevin Roberson, and Demetruis Williams; God given daughters, Tina, Terica, Yalonda, Angilla (his caregiver), Cortney, and Cordelia; God given son, Melvin; sisters, Juanita Tucker (He was her baby), Lorease Spragling, and Sallie (Fred) Varner; brothers-in-law, Larry, Joseph, and Donnie Roberson, Chester Holcombe, and Carl Hurdley; sisters-in-law, Lela, and Helen Spragling, Beverly Davis, and Martha (Quickie) Roberson; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; best friends, Earnest Johnson from Detroit, L.C. (Fix it man), and Ali (Rocky’s); and Godfather, Joseph Betts; Godchildren, Novella Grant, Chaunta Avent, Dreksa Ware, Sharitta White, Novella Johnson, and Christian Clark; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
