Our beloved Herman “Sonny” Thomas Stewart was a man of integrity, strength, and character. He was an amazing father, partner, brother, uncle and friend. He was always willing and offering to lend a helping hand to whoever and where ever needed it.
Herman was born November 4, 1936 to Andrew Stewart and Lydia Camp Stewart in Munford, Alabama. He was the oldest of five brothers. He accepted the gospel at an early age. He developed his love of hunting and fishing there in Munford, often sneaking off to hunt and fish.
He attended Jennifer (Ophelias Hill) High School. He was an attended student and enjoyed schoolwork. He started driving the school bus towards the end of his senior year and continued for a little while afterwards.
He worked at Anniston Memorial Hospital in Anniston, Alabama for about three years before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 1961.
Herman stayed with an uncle who worked in the steel industry and helped him get a job at J&L Steel. He worked various jobs and positions in the industry, including inspector. He retired from LTV Steel after 36 years.
His love for hunting and fishing, continued after his retirement . He took up gardening and worked two gardens, one at his home and one at the community center in Bedford Heights. He earned the title of Master Gardener at the Bedford Heights Community Center. He offered advice to fellow gardeners as to how to make the gardens more successful. He enjoyed growing squash, mustard, turnips, eggplant, and tomatoes, which he would share with family, friends, and neighbors. If he went anywhere, he would normally take something with him to share.
Herman also love playing his lottery numbers and going to the casino and race track occasionally. If he was losing at the casino, you would see him get up and walk out very fast!
