Howard Wayne Sellers was born on April 1, 1953 in Akron, Ohio to Thelma and Willie J. Sellers Sr., whom both preceded him in death.
Howard was educated and played sports in the Akron Public School System graduating from Garfield High School. He worked his entire career at Goodyear Tires, which he retired from as an engineer.
Howard was a man whose heart was bigger than even his stature. His greatest pleasure and focus were his family. He enjoyed his quiet time, yet absolutely delighted in supporting his daughters to become remarkable women; and being a bedrock of security, support, and love for his grandchildren. Howard was generous with love, also making sure his siblings, nieces, and nephews were always aware he was present. His home was a warm landing place, full of stories, music and laughter when they were visiting. His baritone singing voice was often heard at family gatherings as he delighted in the laughter caused by the “embarrassment” to his daughters – while all knew his smile and voice were their happy place.
Howard also had a strong, yet at times frustrating love for all local sports teams. It was a joy that connected him with his loved ones who were dispersed across the country. Phone calls, texts, and debate were never far during the peak of a beloved team’s season.
Howard was preceded in death by his older brothers, Willie “Joe” Sellers Jr. and Robert “Bobby” Sellers. His brothers and parents are awaiting him with open arms and comforting love.
Those who are left to cherish Howard’s memories: His wife, best friend and lifelong support, Carolyn Sellers; his daughters, who were the center of his joy, Kimberly Whatley and Lauren Sellers; his grandchildren and spark of his life, Makayla and Clinton Jr.; his sisters and counselors, Leatrice Sellers and Martha Hawkins; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
