Irene McBride, affectionately known as MaDear and Dears, went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2022, at the age of 98. She was born to Benny McCorvey and Leola McCorvey – Croom in Repton AL, who both preceded her in death.
After moving to Akron at a very young age, Irene was educated in the Akron Public School system. She accepted Christ at a young age and had memberships at Shiloh and Prince of Peace Baptist Churches. Ultimately, Irene became a dedicated and lifelong member of The House of the Lord under the pastorage of Bishop F.J. Johnson, II.
Irene was known for her strong work ethic, her love for gardening, and especially for her gift of singing. As a lyric coloratura soprano, she traveled throughout United States singing for special events, concerts, and recordings. Her true joy came from using her gift to minister for the Lord, with The House of The Lord choir.
Irene held a myriad of jobs but retired from B. F. Goodrich. She enjoyed her time gardening, hiking, and proclaiming her unwavering faith in God to family and friends. She cared deeply for veterans and found joy in making people laugh with her witty sense of humor.
